Christmas reading and listening
For many of us, the Christmas holidays provide an opportunity to catch up with some quality reading and listening. Here’s what I’m looking forward to this year.
The Reith Lectures – BBC Sounds
Four big thinkers talk about the ‘four freedoms’ as coined by Franklin D. Roosevelt: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want and freedom from fear. I’m halfway through as I write this – there’s just so much to chew on.
Jesus through the eyes of women by Rebecca McLaughlin
A few shameless plugs for people I know coming up: I was at Vicar Factory with Rebecca McLaughlin and I am ashamed that I have yet to read any of her books. They come highly recommended by others, so I’m looking forward to this one in particular.
Forty women: Unseen women of the Bible from Eden to Easter by Ros Clarke
Ros Clarke was also at my Vicar Factory and this book looks like a real gem.
You may have already guessed where I know Glen from! We’ve shown his fantastic videos in church before, and I’ve recommended his podcast Speaklife. This book engages with our culture and where Christians stand within it.
Matters of life and death – Podcast
Doctor, professor and ethicist John Wyatt and his journalist son Tim explore Christian ethics, from issues around the beginning and end of life, to abortion, gender and artificial intelligence. Many of these issues are not being discussed enough in our churches – it makes a fascinating listen.
